Saying Goodbye to San Francisco

After 2 months of waiting, we finally got the approval from the Singapore government to be able to travel and move there! My dad’s relocation team at Google worked really hard so that we could finally move to Singapore. Once we found out we were able to move we instantly started packing. We already started packing before then but nowhere near as intensely.

We had to do a lot of stuff besides packing to be able to move to Singapore, we had to print a lot of documents, file a health declaration form and a so much more! Here is a list that my dad and I created:

This only part of our list :)

Packing was going to be hard for us especially because we are packing up 9 years of our lives. So my dad and I did the really boring task of making a list of ALL the stuff we had to pack and the details of the items. My dad and I geeked out on Google Sheets and made it very techy 🤓

This is only part of the list we made of all the stuff we had to pack
My brother was so bored while we were packing, so he decided to put himself in a box 😂

After packing for a while it was almost time to move. 2 days before we left the movers came. We had over 80 boxes!

All our stuff went into this moving truck!
Our nanny, Chime, was kind enough to drop off some lovely homemade food (biriyani and momos!) which was really yummy. Emir and I are really going to miss her :(

The next day, people from the junk company came in and took all the rest of the stuff that we didn't want to take (this was the day before we left). It was all happening so fast before we knew it, it was time to say goodbye to our friends.

Because of COVID-19, we couldn’t say goodbye to all our friends in person, so we only got see a few. We had to say goodbye to virtually to rest of our friends.

My mom and I set up a little get together with our friends on Valencia Street and had Mexican food and drinks at Tacolocious. We all had some tacos and talked about a bunch of stuff (with masks and social distance of course :).

Couldn’t say goodbye in person to all my friends, but had a social distancing farewell with Marabelle and Violet (and Lola too, not pictured). Can’t wait to come back to SF and see everyone again!
Emir and I also hung out with our closest friends in SF, Zoey and Jemish, and their kids Amari and Aiden. Will miss them so much too :(

After we came home we went to sleep.

Because we had no furniture in our house Emir had to sleep on the floor. In the picture he’s pretending to be asleep.

San Francisco will always be in my heart. For over 9 years San Francisco had been my home. I have made amazing friends who I will hopefully have for life, made incredible memories with my friends and family which I will never forget. Below are some of the last few memorable moments in SF as a family.

We had a lovely meal at one of my dad’s favorite restaurants, Delfina. The dinner was a gift from Omar Chacha and Inshra Chachi, all the way from London
As a family, we somehow managed to find time to go Napa on our weekend in the Bay Area. We had a lovely time there.
Baba and Mamma gave this Lego set as a leaving SF present. Stranger Things is one of my favourite shows and I have been wanting this Lego for a long time
Castro is the area Emir and I had spent the most time together. Mainly because my school was there and he would come to pick me up with our nanny Chime a few times a week. This was our last time there. We all had our favorite drinks from Starbucks, Philz, and “Gummy Bear Juice” Shop (i.e. what Emir calls boba tea!). We also bought some things from Cliff’s for the last time!. Goodbye SF… I’ll miss you so much
